And then......and then.......and then.........and then......

Sometimes I think of things I want to write about and my brain explodes. I pop a little reminder into my phone and refer to it once I'm here on Pollywood. I shall relay to you one of these reminders so you can get a little insight into the brain that is 'Loopyland'.....I mean 'Pollywood:
My phone just beeped and I got this reminder:

"Interview with A Vampire. Fascination started with books. Driving home in a storm, desperately wanting to find vampires myself. Old library book. Unlocking the secret. Ultimate Romanticism.
Sandi Powell. Write to her. All her movies. Amazing quotes costume design. Brad Pitt so beautiful. Should have played Dorian Gray in his youth. Pity franchise ruined with Queen. Should have done sep film for 'Vampire Lestat' Explain his character and add weight to his disregard for answers in Interview. Also Armand. Book not so good but room to indulge. Fascination continues. Twilight for teens and yet same affect. Robert Pattinson no appeal outside of Edward. Plays Jacob in new film. Ha ha. Indie stars who lose their quirk and charm in big films Jake Gyllenhal. Seth Rogan."

Great Polly. There are about 10 different posts in there but I will see what I can do. One would think all this mumbo jumbo entered my brain at different times and this note was added to. But no. This was one train of thought that I wrote in my phone this morning while I had porridge and pears at a cafe in Radelaide.
Ok...so where was I?......Vampires.....righto......

Javier is The Dark Tower.

There is talk they are making the movie version of the book series 'The Dark Tower'. This is a series by the radical Stephen King. I do';t know much about it but of course I saw Javier's name on my nerd sites. It sounds like a sort of Sci-fi western. I'm intrigued.

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

My go to cheesy teenage film of choice will always be Ferris Bueller's day off.

When I was little, on the odd occasion I used to go and stay with my Dad. It was always quite a surreal experience for me. My Dad was this cool, larger than life personality who picked me up from school to have lunch and returned me 3 hours late. He would take me to music shops and buy me cassettes of his favourite tunes. We would go to fancy restaurants and I'd order a steak and eat 2 square Cm's of it.  I'd hang out at his big fancy advertising office and let me use all the rad felt pens and draw on giant pieces of art paper. He was this exciting funny man who I always was in slight awe of.

I remember when my Mum went overseas I stayed with him for a few weeks which was the longest span of time I had spent with him. The funniest memory I have of that was my school lunches. I used to open my lunch box to find remnants of a lavish dinner party. Beautiful Orange Duck wrapped in tin foil or a giant piece of chocolate Gateau.
I am digressing from Ferris.
When I would visit Papa for just a day I would often get to watch a movie. Most times I would get the same two videos from the Kelburn video shop. One was WWF wrestling and one was Ferris Buellers Day Off. I would watch it again and again. I loved every scene and anticipated every moment.

Ferris Bueller made me so excited about ditching school. I remember the first time I officially 'cut class'.
I was a late bloomer on the naughty front. It wasn't until I was about 15. I was in love with a boy called Christian who was my unofficial boyfriend. We used to go to the botanical gardens at midnight. We would climb to the top of these large hedges and lie on top of them and talk about Lou Reed and Poetry. HA!
One night I got home to find a Bjork CD on my bed. Christian had dropped it in my window. I hadn't listened to her before. He said I reminded him of her. I was in love.

Christian told me to cut class on a Friday. I was so excited. I went to school in my uniform with a change of clothes in my bag. We used to go to this gym up the road for our P.E classes. After P.E myself and a group of girls walked back to school. I fell behind and ducked behind a fence to escape. I remember my heart was beating so fast.
I walked up the hill to Christian's house and remember being so afraid I was being followed.
We spent the afternoon watching Apocalypse Now. I didn't like it or understand it. But I pretended to.
That night I went home and couldn't look at my Mum. I felt exhilarated and alive.

My day was no way near as exciting as Ferris Bueller's day off. It did mark the beginning of a little rebel. The following year I could count the days I went to class on one hand.
So yes. This movie evokes many memories.
Love.

I heart Jack.

"Just let the wardrobe do the acting."

"Once you've been really 'bad' in a movie, there's a certain kind of fearlessness you develop."

"Our generation are the new old. I remember what someone of 60 looked like when I was a kid. They didn't look like me."

"Americans don't like sexual movies - they like sexy movies."

"If you get an impulse in a scene, no matter how wrong it seems, follow the impulse. It might be something and if it ain't - take two!"

"Frankly, I got into the movies because I like the movies a lot."

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

A Single Man

Vintage Natalie

Getting Jiggy with it.

Steven Soderbergh is in talks with Channing Tatum to do a movie about a male stripper. The interesting thing here is that Channing Tatum was a male stripper! He got his big break in the film Step Up. He is an incredible dancer. I think this will be a really interesting film.
When I worked on 'The Eagle', between takes Channing used to always dance. This was quite hilarious as he was always dressed as a Roman Soldier. Picture Russell Crowe in The Gladiator doing the running man between takes. Channing said it relaxed him.
I look forward to seeing what Soderbergh comes up with.

Django Unchained

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Tarantino is going to do his long talked about Western.
I actually can't wait. Now now now.

There's a place for us.

Arthur Laurents- author of West side story died yesterday. I love West Side Story. LOVE it.
This classic stage show was adapted into a film in 1961. It is one of my favourite movies. Aside from Rosemary's baby, it was the first film I noticed the colour scheme and lighting. West Side Story is a re-imagining of the classic Romeo and Juliet. The Montagues are this time 'The Jets' and the Capulets are the hispanic 'Sharks. I always loved the sharks. I loved the costumes and how both worlds were completely different: The Jets all yellow and tan and wholesome, the sharks more sultry in violets and blues.
Natalie Wood is quite possibly one of the most beautiful actresses ever! I also loved her in Rebel Without A Cause. She died very mysteriously. She was on a boat with her long time love Robert Wagner and she somehow fell over board and drowned. They had been arguing about a number of things but mostly about the fact she had had an affair with Warren Beatty when she shot 'Splendour In The Grass'. Who knows what really happened.
I used to pay the piano when I was younger. My poor piano teacher would be bombarded with West Side Story requests:
"Can you teach me 'Somewhere?" "Can you play "Somewhere"? "Can you play Somewhere and sing it too?". I still have my piano book filled with all the songs.
P.s...it is quite possibly the cheesiest film I love. You've been warned.

May the 4th be with you

Do you know what R2D2 stands for?

Well it doesn't stand for anything that relates to star wars but George Lucas got the idea when he was shooting American Graffiti. He saw a role of film that was labelled 'R2D2' which stood for
 'Roll 2 Dialogue 2'.

You are welcome.

Another one.....

In addition to my wedding post.....
I thought you'd like to know I found a new one.

I have the BEST story to tell...... stay tuned.....
